The Lenny Molotov Band works the tantalizing border of early jazz and delta blues--with the complexity of the former and the aggression of the latter. Lenny's a virtuoso fingerpicker and his songs are literate, relevant and at times, humorous. Jake Engel on harmonica and Ray Sapirstein on trumpet are stellar soloists--but they can also harmonize like a horn section. J.D. Wood anchors the sometimes frenetic sound with his stand up bass.

Pie in the Sky: All About Greenpoint’s Own Rooftop Farms
with Annie Novak

New York City is a Farmer's Paradise! Just as Annie Novak, one of the masterminds behind Greenpoint's Rooftop Farms, a 6,000 square foot organic farm picture-esquely plopped on top of a warehouse overlooking Midtown Manhattan.  Her operation--founded in partnership with Ben Flanner, a neophyte to farming, and Goode Green, a green-roofing specialist--currently produces produce for a host of Brooklyn gourmandizers, including Anella and Marlow and Sons.   They even run a farm stand featuring fresh picked produce every Sunday!  Come hear how this urban Agronomist tells us the unlikely story of how she did it--and learn how you can too!
Annie Novak is the founder of field-to-fork education program Growing Chefs.  Growing Chefs has partnered with Slow Foods, Edible Estates, Health Corps and schools across New York in farming, nutrition, and edible landscaping.   A lifelong vegetarian, Annie began farming as an undergraduate while doing her thesis work on Fair Trade chocolate. She’s followed blueberries and cows through New Zealand, sheep and hops through Argentina, quinoa and llamas through Peru, cassava and fish through Fiji and the Cook Islands, and cacao through Costa Rica and Ghana.  She  is the Children’s Gardening Coordinator at The New York Botanical Garden and active with the New York City Greenmarket.
    Mathias Tjonn 9:30
Mathias Tjønn is a Norwegian singer & tunesmith from across the ocean (Oslo, Norway). His music is seeped in acoustic folk traditions of both Norwegian, American and Brazilian origin, but often features grander arrangements of strings, woodwinds and vocal harmonies. Genre-wise he's thinking about calling it baroque-folk, but that's probably on the more pompous side of things so he's open to suggestions.

with Nathan Kensinger
New York is the most occupied city on Earth.   Yet, abandoned buildings abound!   Join  photographer Nathan Kensinger for a picture show of some of the city’s feral properties,   From the abandoned mansions of Admiral’s Row at the Brooklyn Navy Yard to beached ships littering Dead Horse Bay to the sweet interiors of the Dominos Sugar Factory.  Finding an astonishing amount of beauty in the decay Mr. Kensinger’s pictures are an indelible record of a vanishing city.
Nathan Kensinger is a filmmaker, photographer, film festival programmer and location scout. His most recent documentary was Covered Tracks, and experimental documentary about the Freedom Tunnel on Manhattan’s Upper West Side.  His most recent photo exhibit was  Abandoned Brooklyn, at Union Docs in Williamsburg. . …this isn’t a retro SoCal folk rock date but a sweet contemporary folk rocker that tips it’s cap pleasingly in the direction of post Newport Dylan but only charts it’s own course. Avoiding genre clichés, this is a date that is sure to take up permanent residence on your car’s sun visor since it’s a nice antidote to one too many mornings.” -Midwest Record

LMNOP.com says “this young lady sure knows how to deliver a tune.” Blurt Magazine says she's "assured, yet vulnerable." Her song “Let Me” received an honorable mention in the 2008 International Songwriting Competition, she was one of ten finalists in the 2009 Wildflower Festival Performing Songwriter Competition, and she appeared in the 2009 Falcon Ridge Folk Festival’s Emerging Artists showcase. She'll be joined by Jimmy Sullivan on bass, Kyle Sanna on electric guitar, and Jordan Perlson on drums at this October 29 show.
